Tour a Cayos Cochinos

The Cayos Cochinos Natural Marine Monument is considered one of the places that you must visit before you die , being accorded the 17th position among the 35 best places in the world. Cayos Cochinos has also been selected as one of the top 10 destinations to be visited around the world , in the number 6 position´s of the most sensual places, according to the prestigious magazine. The Cayos Cochinos belong to the world's second largest barrier reef : is an archipelago of 13 coral cays of origin and 2 volcanic islands.

Activities that can be enjoyed in the Cayos Cochinos are as follows ; swimming in turquoise waters, relaxing on white sand beaches , snorkeling , hiking in search of the pink boa, snorkeling, and diving ( with prior reservation) and if you cannot dive you can learn at our Diving School.

According to history The Garifuna communities of Chachauate Cay and of East End were settled in 1965 , today these communities offer us the following services: accommodation, food, crafts sales and Garifuna dances ( with prior reservation) .

The Tour

7:00 am The tour to Cayos Cochinos begins from La Ceiba to Centro Turistico Sambo Creek in the Garifuna Community of Sambo Creek (distance 25 min. from La Ceiba ) .

7:45 am We board boats that are properly equipped with 2 motors , canopies for sun protection , seat backrests and captains , experienced guides to lead us to Cayos Cochinos .

8:35 am During the boat ride we made our first stop at Bolaños cays , fishing station , here you can enjoy the palm trees, white sandy beaches and swim in crystal clear turquoise waters around this cays .

9:30 am We continue our journey towards Cayo Menor at Research Station where we provide a brief chat and an informative video on the marine natural monument of Cayos Cochinos.

10:00 am We leave and go around the Cayo Menor, until we find a spectacular cay´s beaches, where we can do snorkeling , swim , scuba diving ( with previous reservation) , then continue our adventure on a hike on a trail in search of the endemic species of the Cayos Cochinos island chain: the pink boa constrictor .

11:40 am Later pass by both cays; Chachahuate Cay No. 1 and to the Chachahuate Cay No. 2 making a stop at the Chachahuate No. 1 is the cay where are settled the Garifuna ethnic group since 1965 according to historical records . This community offers Garifuna gastronomy , accommodation, crafts , Garifuna folk dances (with previous reservation) .

1:45 pm Check back to the Sambo Creek Resorts ending in La Ceiba City at about 3:30 pm .
