The Pech Village is 7 minutes by vehicle from Trujillo.we travel into a forest where we will find a settlement of one of the oldest ethnic groups in Honduras, it is unknown as of their exact place of their origin, as they may date back as far as 3000 years .It is said thaey came from Mexican or Colombian tribes, others believe they are a Honduran tribe.
The Pech did not allow the Spaniards to conquer them with their army, nor missionaries, their martyrs and their customs. Also it has been said that their population was of15,000 people when the Spanish arrived, and their numbers reduced due to the fact that some died of the diseases brought by the conquistadors ,and others were captured and sold as slaves in the Dominican Republic . Despite all that, the Pech , even after the 300 years of Spanish rule have admirably preserved their culture. Presently there are between 3,200-3,800 people.
